Can someone lend Liam Payne a tenner? We only ask because the singer must surely be counting the pennies after splurging on a £3m square-cut diamond for his now-fiancée Maya Henry. We’re just kidding – pretty sure the multimillionaire can easily afford it. Maya, 20, debuted the whopping rock last week, as she and Liam headed out for dinner at fancy London restaurant Novikov. And while they’re yet to formally confirm their engagement, sources say the One Direction singer, 27, and Maya are, indeed, officially betrothed. And Bear’s got himself a stepmum!
News of Liam’s proposal may come as a surprise for many fans, seeing as he and the Texas-born model have barely been seen together since the beginning of lockdown. But, according to insiders – despite rumours saying they’d split – they’ve actually been engaged for a while, after isolating together in his London pad. The pair were first linked in August 2018, shortly after Liam split from Cheryl, 37 – who’s mum to his three-year-old son Bear – but they didn’t become an item until a year later. Since then, Liam’s been smitten with Maya, whose dad is an extremely wealthy lawyer. Last year, he ruffled feathers by saying Maya was “more relaxed” than Cheryl, before telling the world, “Sometimes I don’t recognise this happy guy. Sure glad [Maya] brought him back, though.” At the time, as heat told you, Cheryl was not impressed and was wary about introducing a new woman into Bear’s life, especially because Maya was only 19 at the time.
Still, Liam and Cheryl have always managed to keep things friendly for the sake of their son. Last year, Liam paid tribute to his ex, calling her a “great mum”, and adding, “She’s one of the most, if not the most, important people in my life” – words which, apparently, didn’t sit all that well with Maya. Since then, a lot has changed – the couple got even closer in isolation, while Liam spent the majority of lockdown away from Bear, who was isolating with Cheryl in their Buckinghamshire home. Liam’s since been making up for lost time with Bear, but his international work commitments often keep him away. And, as we recently told you, he’s even been thinking about a permanent move to the US. Now that he’s engaged to an American citizen, that’s become more likely.
Meanwhile, as Cheryl has spoken about her own desire to have more children via a sperm donor, will this news give her even more motivation to make big changes in her own life? Only time will tell. n
