Katherine Ryan’s The Duchess comes to Netflix

Original UK comedy series are a relative rarity on Netflix, where previous efforts range from the diabolical Idris Elba vehicle Turn Up Charlie to Ricky Gervais’ wonderful After Life, which is as dramatic as it is comedic. So, we’re intrigued to see how this project from top comedian Katherine Ryan turns out. After many presenting and panel-show guest gigs, it’s Ryan’s first scripted series and she also exec-produces, writes and stars in the show, as a forthright Canadian singlemother living in London – a character not a million miles away from her stand-up stage persona. ★★★★
