Arg: ‘I feel terrible about what I put my mum through’

The now-sober star is trying to make amends

-

It’s no secret that he put Gemma Collins through hell during their on/off relationship, due to his drug addiction. But last week, Arg opened up about the many other people he’s hurt along the way – starting with his mum, Patricia. Appearing on Loose Women together, Arg and Patricia spoke about how his addictions had damaged his relationship with his family, and how the latter had been forced to seek counselling to deal with the trauma.

“For ages, I didn’t know who to turn to,” said Patricia, who, until now, has kept herself out of the spotlight and has never publicly commented on Arg’s issues. “I was scared. You bring your children into the world and you want to protect them and love them, but I realised I wasn’t in control and I couldn’t save him. It was the scariest thing to go through.”

Arg – who’s been sober since visiting a rehab facility in Thailand earlier this year – then choked up as he spoke about the pain his friends and family have endured over the past seven years, due to his cocaine addiction. “It’s one thing putting myself through it and ruining my own life, but it’s the effect you have on your family and friends,” the 32 year old said. “In terms of my mum, my dad, my sister, my friends and family, they had to deal with it day to day. I feel terrible, because my mum’s had to get counselling and support because of what I put her through. She’s raised me amazingly and I’ve made her question herself, wondering, ‘Is it something I’ve done?’

“I think the best thing I can do to make amends is to stay clean and sober.” n
