Kate and Lila to launch fashion label

Mossy’s about to become the ultimate Momager

‘Lila’s going to be the UK’S Kylie Jenner’

She used to have the Midas touch in fashion – everything Kate Moss touched turned to gold. And anyone who remembers the national frenzy that ensued when she launched her own Topshop range in 2007 (heat isn’t ashamed to admit we queued for hours for a tasselled waistcoat) will know her style influence was not to be underestimated. But these days, things have changed slightly.

Kate’s still an icon, but she’s started to take a backseat to make way for a younger generation of fashion starlets – or, more specifically, her 18-year-old daughter Lila Grace.

Last week, Kate’s mini-me – whose dad is Dazed co-founder Jefferson Hack – made her runway debut for Italian brand Miu Miu, winning rave reviews in the process. According to insiders, this is all part of Kate’s multi-step plan to create a new fashion empire, with Lila as the face and her as the brains behind it. “Kate has been trying to build a big fashion brand for years,” says an insider close to the 46 year old, who was only 14 herself when she was model-scouted at an airport in 1988. “But after a lot of market research, it was decided that she no longer has the relevant appeal to penetrate the teen market and make it as big as she wants it to be – something that could replace Topshop. But Lila could. So, at the moment, they’re working to launch Lila as the UK’S Kylie Jenner – using Kylie as a business model, but with way more street cred.”

Last month, Kate and Lila hit the headlines after stepping out together for Dior fashion designer Kim Jones’ birthday celebrations – with Lila wearing a black sheer dress in tribute to her model mum’s love of a see-through shift. According to our source, these attention-grabbing looks are all part of the plan to strengthen Lila’s growing position as London’s next It Girl. And then they’ll begin phase two: launching their brand. “They’re going to take it slowly over the next year,” we’re told. “Lila will do some modelling, walk some runways, and build her cool-girl status. She really understands what she’s getting into – she plans to study fashion design and business, as well as do the modelling thing. Like Kate, she really is a driving force behind all this.”

Watch out, Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber – this mum and daughter duo mean business. n
