Wellington Paranormal

Sky Comedy/now TV, Monday 5 April, 9pm

- ★★★★ Jason Arnopp

This comedy show, whose three seasons are all now available on demand, is a spin-off from the makers of the 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. Fake docu cameras follow police officers Karen O’leary and Mike Minogue as they keep the streets of New Zealand’s capital safe from inexplicable goings-on. In tonight’s opening episode, the duo arrest a projectile-vomiting drunk teenager who then starts climbing the walls like a spider while claiming to be Bazu’aal Of The Unholy Realm. When Sergeant Maaka delves deeper into this strange happening, he invites the officers to join his Paranormal Unit, just in time to stop Bazu’aal opening up a hellmouth in Wellington’s iconic Bucket Fountain sculpture.
