Line Of Duty
BBC1, Sunday 18 April, 9pm
This stunning sixth series of Jed Mercurio’s police thriller is starting to feel like the TV crime drama equivalent of Avengers: Endgame, in the way that he’s bringing back characters from past seasons – and in this episode, myriad plot strands resurface from pretty much every stage of the entire saga. Most excitingly of all, the superb Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland) returns this week in the role of Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael, previously seen in series five, when she challenged the integrity of the god-like Superintendent Ted Hastings. Her impact is instant and spectacular, while the final scene is one of TV’S all-time great cliffhangers.
