The Witchfinder
BBC2, Tuesday 8 March, 10pm
Created, written and directed by brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, who’ve been working with Steve Coogan on everything Alan Partridgerelated for more than a decade, this splendid new comedy series is set during the English Civil War in the 1640s, when competition between rival witchfinders was fierce. The great Tim Key (sidekick Simon from the Partridge shows) plays one such theoretical witch expert, who tries to take charge of the prosecution of a local alleged purveyor of witchcraft played quite brilliantly by Daisy May Cooper (This Country). The glorious cast also includes Jessica Hynes (W1A, Spaced), Vincent Franklin (Cucumber) and Daniel Rigby (Landscapers).
