Some may have wondered whether this period detective show could survive the 2019 departure of James Norton, but those folk underestimated the enduring appeal of Robson Green, who plays DI Geordie Keating, the man who solves the shockingly high number of local murder cases alongside the Reverend Will Davenport (Tom Brittney). For reasons unknown, Geordie only feels comfortable when he’s solving crimes in tandem with an inexperienced vicar. Here comes series seven, then, set over the long hot summer of 1959. Will finds himself constantly distracted from wedding season, what with the homicide rate of his parish continuing to climb. ★★★★
