The Nan Movie
Cert 15, 85 minutes, in cinemas 18 March
Starring: Catherine Tate, Mathew Horne, Katherine Parkinson Director: Josie Rourke
THE PLOT Catherine Tate unleashed her foul-mouthed cockney grandmother on to an unsuspecting world in 2004, with her self-titled BBC comedy sketch show. Now, Nan gets her first full-length movie – embarking on a road trip with her grandson Jamie (Horne), who wants her to make amends with her estranged sister Nell (Parkinson). WHAT’S RIGHT/WRONG WITH IT? With Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein co-writing with Tate, and award-winning theatre director Josie Rourke at the helm, the film doesn’t lack for smart credentials. The Nan
Movie was not shown in time for review, but the trailer raises plenty of smiles. VERDICT Some may question the relevance of the movie in 2022, or indeed Nan’s suitability for a feature-length story, but this talent package has sure piqued our interest.
