Moon Knight Slow Horses
Disney+, Wednesday 30 March Apple TV+, Friday 1 April
If you’ve seen the trailer for this big new Marvel series, you’ll know that its star, Oscar Isaac (Dune), does a terrible English accent in it, playing a mild-mannered gift shop worker. Turns out there’s a reason for this bizarre acting choice, because in fact, said British dude is but one of the many identities within the central character of Marc Spector, who has dissociative identity disorder. And one of his other personalities is that of a Jewish-american mercenary who’s some kind of vessel for an Egyptian moon god. Yes, it’s totally weird, wild stuff. Throw in Ethan Hawke, no less, as a cult leader who thinks Spector/moon Knight stands in the way of his dream of world domination, and you have a recipe for something pretty special. ★★★★
Not only is the cast of this new espionage saga pretty exciting – featuring Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Kristin Scott Thomas (Four Weddings), Jack Lowden (Dunkirk) and Olivia Cooke (Sound Of Metal), it’s also adapted from a great book by Mick Herron. Lowden plays River Cartwright, a young MI5 intelligence operative whose career takes a sudden nosedive when he’s sent to work in Slough House, a decrepit old admin office run by decrepit old agent Jackson Lamb (Oldman). But when a young Muslim man is kidnapped and held hostage by a far-right group, Cartwright launches his own, rogue investigation. The six-episode series will premiere with the first two episodes, followed by new instalments every Friday after that.
