The M is investigations Of Romesh Ranganathan

BBC2, Sunday 27 March, 9pm

- Boyd Hilton

From a quick glance at that title, you might have assumed this is the latest travelogue in heat fave Romesh’s Misadventures format. But, no, this is a new series in which Rom investigates the mysterious deaths of some of the world’s most intriguing and important cultural icons, despite having no discernible investigative skills whatsoever, as he willingly admits. The first subject, nevertheless, is legendary singer/guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who died in a Notting Hill flat in 1970, under circumstances that have never been fully satisfyingly explained. Assisted by criminal psychologist Dr Julia Shaw, Romesh speaks to experts and witnesses, friends and family, journalists and pathologists, as well as those influenced by Hendrix, like musicians Michael Kiwanuka and Roger Daltrey. ★★★★
