‘JAY KAY WAS DENISE’S ONE TRUE LOVE’
IT’S LIKE THE NINETIES ALL OVER AGAIN
Move over Bennifer, we have a new nostalgic reunion we’re obsessed with. Last week, it was revealed that Denise Van Outen has been turning to an old flame for support in the wake of her painful split from fiancé Eddie Boxshall – a certain ex from nineties band Jamiroquai named Jay Kay.
“Denise and Jay have been speaking again and it has been good for both of them to have that connection,” claimed an insider close to the exes, who dated for three years, after meeting in 1998. “Their split was very painful, but a lot of water has passed under the bridge.”
Jay is now married with two children and while Denise isn’t looking for love at the moment, Jay will always have a special place in her heart. “She always feels he was the one that got away and has regrets over their break-up – he always felt like her one true love,” a source tells heat. “They’re both in different places now, but she feels pleased they’re back in contact.”
Denise, 47, wrote about the relationship in her new autobiography, A Bit Of Me, revealing how she and Jay, now 52, met during a GQ interview where she flirted outrageously. “I’ve always loved an innuendo and some of mine weren’t exactly subtle,” she wrote. “I remember Jay’s jaw falling open in shock at some of the things I said.” They got engaged in 1999, and he said at the time, “I love Denise. She’s very special to me. We are getting married next year, but no date has been set.” But he also admitted their work made things hard, saying, “We hardly get to see each other because of our schedules.” The pair later blamed their “conflicting” jobs for their 2001 split.
Denise has been open about her recent heartbreak, after she discovered that Eddie had been cheating. But in a recent chat, the Strictly star said she’s been doing better, confirming, “I’m feeling really good now because I wasn’t in a good place, it was all a bit of a shock.”
