Be a savvy spender

-

If you’re looking to save a few pennies, luxuries such as that morning commute coffee are usually the first to go – but Makala says it’s just about spending smarter. “Many places now offer monthly subscriptions, and if you add up your coffees during the week, it’s likely you’ve already paid for the one-month subscription for unlimited coffees.

If you can, invest in a good coffee machine and a disposable cup for home, it might not taste the same as your favourite brand, but in the long run, it will save you some money.” She recommends a monthly finance review to help look at your spend and to see where you can save. “It will help you look at what you’re spending, whether anything like your Netflix subscription has increased, and you can get rid of the things you have in excess, such as your Amazon Prime Video or Disney + that you don’t use.” Her swear by rule? “When making purchases, apply the 48-hour rule: it gives you a few days to make sure what you’re buying is actually what you need and extra time to price compare to see if it’s cheaper elsewhere.”
