RECYCLE, REUSE, REBOOT
Some of our favourite shows are coming back – with a twist
Be still our beating hearts. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have announced they’ll be taking part in a That ’70s Show reboot – fittingly named That ’90s Show (out later this year) – and we cannot wait.
The spin-off will reunite Ashton and Mila’s characters Kelso and Jackie with the rest of the crew, including Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), and will follow their daughter Leia as she spends the summer with her grandparents. And it’s not the only reboot in town…
FRASIER
February 2021 saw a Frasier reboot finally confirmed – with an update from the man himself. Talking about his return to the show as psychiatrist Frasier Crane, Kelsey Grammer said, “I cried! So, you know, I’m happy”. It’s not certain that any other original cast members will star – but with a rumoured release date this year, you might find out soon.
FRAGGLE ROCK
Apple TV+’S Fraggle Rock: Back To The Future has avoided becoming a reboot turkey by staying true to its roots. Following the original Fraggles, it also features some new faces, voiced by the likes of Patti Labelle and Daveed Diggs, as well as an appearance by the Foo Fighters.
LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE
Airing from 1974 until 1982, this show gave viewers a taste of a simpler life. And with a rehash in the works, it’s said that Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie, is “totally there” to play her on-screen mother Mrs Oleson. It might not capture the magic of the original, but we’re sure it’ll come close.
HEARTBREAK HIGH
Expect a whole new side of Hartley High this September. The original series – which ran for nine years – was the essential coming-of-age TV in the ’90s, and with a ridiculously good cast and unmatched theme tune, those are some big boots to fill. Die-hard fans are already hoping we’ll see the new students dig up a certain time capsule…
THE FLINTSTONES
We’re here for Bedrock, because who doesn’t want an adult-themed Flintstones reboot? The series has entered development, with Elizabeth Banks slated to voice a twentysomething Pebbles as she navigates life in the new Bronze Age world. No release date on this one yet, but yabba dabba doo, we’re excited
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
Nothing screams teen nostalgia more than an anonymous stalker sabotaging your life – and that’s exactly what Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin gives us. Produced by the makers of Riverdale, this slasher-influenced reboot follows some new, bright-eyed girls as they deal with A’s wrath. It’s a love letter to 2010 pop culture.
