We chat to Drag Race royalty Baga Chipz

What was it like the first time you met Rupaul?

It was the first day of filming and she came down the stairs, fully glammed up and it was incredible. Everyone was screaming. It’s what I imagine meeting God is like. People say never meet your idols, but Ru was just so lovely. We got on so well, because she really understood my smutty sense of humour.

Are you watching the current series of Drag Race?

I’ve seen every single episode of Drag Race UK ever made. I’ve got to support my sisters. I’m friends with Danny Beard, Pixie Polite and Black Peppa already, so it’s amazing to see them living out their dreams.

Are you still in touch with the queens from your series in 2019?

All of them! Crystal and I have just been working together for a campaign with Strongbow, and I go for dinner all the time with Cheryl Hole and Gothy Kendoll. We were very lucky that we all got on and nobody really fell out.

What about celebrity pals?

I’ve performed onstage with Jane Mcdonald, and before the show, I was friends with Danniella Westbrook and Katie Price. But since Dragrace UK, my followers have gone through the roof with people like Kate Beckinsale and Kelly Osbourne sliding into my DMS. I get most excited when soap stars follow me, because I’ve always wanted to be on Coronation Street.

You recently starred in Ackley Bridge, so maybe Corrie is next…

Working on Ackley Bridge was such an incredible experience and I met some truly brilliant people. It was a lot of fun and I’d love to do more acting in the future. I do like to call myself the Judi Dench of drag. ■
