1 Elton John
The national treasure’s Elton John Aids Foundation has raised over £465m and saved an estimated five million lives since he founded it in 1992. Elton also gets famous folk to dig deep into their pockets at his annual White Tie & Tiara Balls and Oscars’ after-show parties.
2 Martin Lewis
After selling Moneysavingexpert for £87m in 2012, Martin has ploughed £20m of his personal wealth into good causes, whether it’s £3.4m to charities during COVID, £3.3m for the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute, or £50k to a This Morning phone-in caller struggling with their energy bills.
3 Stormzy
Stormzy has pledged to give £10m away over the next decade to help organisations fighting racial inequality. He’s also donated £500k to fund university scholarships for disadvantaged students, and supports new literary voices with his #Merky Books publishing imprint.
4 The Beckhams
The philanthropic pair donated £1m to Unicef’s Emergency Appeal for Ukraine in March this year, part of a long history of giving that has seen David donate £5m to various children’s charities and his £3.4m Paris Saint-germain salary to good causes.
5 Coldplay
The band has donated £900k to The Ocean Cleanup project, while each member also personally gifted £500k to other charities. Coldplay are currently on the “world’s most sustainable tour”, which has a kinetic dance floor and a tree planted for every ticket sold.
6 Cara Delevingne
Cara launched her environmental charity Initiative Earth last year with a £350k donation. Other altruistic endeavours include selling an NFT of her privates to raise money for her Cara Delevingne Foundation, which supports women’s/lgbtq+ rights.
7 Amal & George Clooney
The British human rights lawyer and her actor husband run the Clooney Foundation For Justice, which promotes women’s rights and helps free imprisoned journalists, among other endeavours. The A-list duo have also donated around £1m of their £315m wealth to charity.
