Dance Scottish

-

A NUMBER of dancers from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society’s Helensburgh branch were in Oban last weekend for the Oban & Lorne Branch Weekend School.

With about 130 dancers from far and wide we had an excellent dance on the Friday evening with music by the Susan McFadyen Band who were on top form, then a class on the Saturday morning led by Fiona Mackie from Dundee.

For the Saturday evening dance we had the Luke Brady Band, based in Dundee but with a second accordion travelling from London for the occasion. Another band on excellent form.

This week we cooperate with Live Argyll to bring about 250 P7 pupils from all the primary schools in the Helensburgh and Lomond area to our “Day of Dance” in the Victoria Hall on Friday, March 15. where the young folk can enjoy the fun of Dancing Scottish.

After that there is a quick change of outfit and we are off to Greenock for their annual Ball in the beautiful surroundings of Greenock Town Hall.

Saturday brings a slight rest for a few hours before we head down to Ardrishaig for the Mid Argyll Branch closing social.

Our final social dance of the winter will be held in Helensburgh Parish Church on Saturday, April 6.

In the afternoon we have a teaching class being taught by Dave Hall and music by Martainn Skene, with about 65 attending, then in the evening we have a social dance with music by the Marian Anderson Band. Ticket sales for that are close to capacity .

As always there are plenty of social dances available in the surrounding area for dancers happy to travel, in locations including Largs, Kilmarnock, Troon, Millport and Glasgow.

Meanwhile, the Helensburgh Tuesday Club start their summer sessions in mid May in the Victoria Halls in Sinclair Street, while the Cove and Kilcreggan class have their dance at the end of May in Cove Burgh Hall.

This is fully booked with a waiting list of about 20 dancers hoping someone will have to cancel, including a young German dancer who would like to come.

As always, full information about the branch and its activities is available at our website - www.rscdshelensburgh. org.uk - or from our secretary, Irene, on helensburghrscds@btinternet.com.
