Luss boxer announces her return to the ring next month
FORMER Hermitage Academy pupil Hannah Rankin will be back in the ring next month after announcing her latest fight.
The former IBO super-welterweight world champion will fight on the undercard of Khademi v Farrag at Grand Central Hall in Liverpool on April 26.
The 33-year-old from Luss says she is hoping to get back competing for titles this year, alongside her TV duties at the Olympics in Paris this summer.
She said: “Big thank you for having me on the first BoxNation TV fightcard in Liverpool before I go to do commentary this summer at the Olympics in Paris.
“Back on the trail for world titles in 2024 and going to start the year with a bang.
“Back to business, let’s do this!”
It’ll be Rankin’s first time in the ring since an agonising defeat against Slovenia’s Ema Kozin in November, when the 33-year-old lost out in her bid to become Scotland’s first-ever unified world champion in a contest for the vacant WBC and WBO super-welterweight titles.
The former Hermitage Academy pupil was previously crowned IBO super-welterweight world champion in June 2019 after defeating American Sarah Curran at the Lagoon Leisure
Centre in Paisley, but was deposed just four months later when she lost her first defence against Sweden’s Patricia Berghult.
She was back on top of the world in November 2021 when victory over another Swedish fighter, Maria Lindberg, saw her capture the vacant WBA and IBO super-welterweight titles and
though she retained both belts against Alejandra Ayala in Glasgow in May of the following year, defeat to England’s Terri Harper four months later saw her lose both titles.
Next month’s bout, along with the whole of the fight card, will be broadcast exclusively on BoxNation TV.
Rankin confirmed in January that she’ll be part of the Olympic Broadcasting Company’s commentary team for the Games in Paris this summer.
