ONE of the best-loved family events in the Helensburgh and Lomond calendar will not take place this year.

The Rhu and Shandon Gala’s organisers said they were “disheartened” to halt the 2024 event but hoped it would give them time to plan something better for next year.

The event returned in June 2023 after a three-year absence, with groups, businesses, competitions, music and fun in glorious sunshine.

But organisers said they have struggled with the “significant loss” of committee members, which means they just can’t take it forward for 2024.

In a statement, vice chair Kate Jarvis told the Advertiser: “It is with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of the Rhu Gala for the year 2024.

“This decision comes as a result of unforeseen challenges faced by our committee, primarily due to a significant loss of committee members.

“The Rhu Gala organising committee has been working tirelessly over the years to bring this beloved community event to life, but the recent departure of key members has left us unable to proceed with this year’s festivities.

“The Rhu Gala has been a cherished tradition in our community, celebrating the spirit of togetherness and local talent.

“However, the current circumstances necessitate a pause to regroup and reorganise.”

The organisers said they viewed the decision as an “opportunity to revitalise and strength” their efforts for future events.

Ms Jarvis said: “Our foremost

objectives are to recruit new committee members who share our passion and dedication, as well as to secure essential funding to ensure the success of the Rhu Gala in 2025 and beyond.

“In this pursuit, we are reaching out to fellow community groups and stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration and support.

“By joining forces with other

like-minded organizations, we aim to return next year with renewed vigour, offering an even more memorable Rhu Gala experience for everyone.”

She added: “The Rhu Gala organizing committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, vendors, performers, volunteers, and community members who have supported us throughout the years.

“Your enthusiasm and commitment have been instrumental in making the Rhu Gala a highlight of our community calendar.

“We look forward to the future with optimism and enthusiasm, as we embark on this journey to bring back the Rhu Gala stronger than ever in 2025.”
