ONE of the area’s premier events has issued a call for volunteers to make this year’s gala a roaring success.

Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games is set to be held on Saturday, June 1 this year at Helensburgh Rugby Club.

The event is entirely run by volunteers.

In a post on Facebook, the organisers said: “The Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games wouldn’t be the same without our volunteers. Can you help make this year’s games, the best games ever?

“Our Highland Games are entirely run by volunteers and they all help to make the day that little bit extra special. The Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games are a celebration of Scottish culture and showcase Helensburgh as a fun place to visit.”

Volunteers are needed to set up the field with tents, fencing and barriers from Thursday, May 30.

On the day itself, volunteers can help direct stall holders to their pitches, survey the site to keep it clear of rubbish, and other duties. They will also help with site clean-up on June 1, and then taking down fencing and stacking it on Sunday, June 2.

Volunteers get free entry to the games and a voucher towards lunch.

To sign up, contact www.hlhighlandgames.scot/contact.

The Highland Games run from 10am to 5pm on June 1.

It will include some Ladies’ Heavy Competitions, said organisers: 4kg ball, the 14lb hammer, the 14lb weight for distance, the 28lb over the bar, the 12 lb Sheaf toss and Toss the Caber.

You must register as an athlete with the Royal Scottish Highland Games Association (RSHGA) first online and then competitors must pre-register before May 29 with the Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games.

Email your name, address, contact number, date of birth and RSHGA registration number to secretary.hlhg@gmail.com.
