Tristan in the running

-

THE Helensburgh Advertiser’s chief reporter has been nominated for a gong at the 45th annual Scottish Press Awards.

Tristan Stewart-Robertson has been named as a finalist in the Weekly Journalist of the Year category.

He has been recognised for his work on the Helensburgh Advertiser as well as his contribution to sister title the Clydebank Post.

Tristan’s submissions to the award judges included his investigation into six years of concern around reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in John Logie Baird Primary in Helensburgh, and his interview with Jimmy Kenney, who has spent the last 35 Christmas Days spreading festive cheer around Garelochhead while dressed as Santa Claus.

Clydebank Post reporter Ava Whyte has also been nominated in the same category.

Tristan has also received a second nomination at the awards for Podcast of the Year for his own series, A Murder Without End.

Gillian Murphy, group editor of West Scotland, Newsquest, said: “It is wonderful to see Tristan nominated for his work on the Helensburgh Advertiser and sister title the Clydebank Post.

“There is a real appetite for quality local journalism, both in print and online, and Tristan’s excellent work has hugely contributed to that offering.

“All our reporters and the wider editorial team work extremely hard in a fastpaced environment and I’d like to thank the whole team all for their continued efforts.

“Congratulations to all the nominees.”

Richard Neville, chair of the Scottish Press Awards judges, said: “It has been fantastic to see the quality of entries to this year’s awards. The talent in this industry stretches right across the spectrum of digital and print publishing and across every region of the country.

“The need for incisive, challenging journalism grows every year and Scotland’s journalists have risen to the task in the past 12 months.

“Telling good stories will always be at the heart of what the industry does but holding the rich, powerful, and opportunistic chancers to account is of equal importance. It is clear from this year’s shortlist that Scotland is not a place to come to avoid scrutiny.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central on Wednesday, May 29.
