THE star of several BBC TV shows visited Helensburgh to host two exclusive acting workshops.

Stephen McCole visited the members of the Helensburgh and District branch of Enable to hold a drama workshop during their Tuesday Club on April 24 and May 1.

Stephen is known for his roles in popular TV shows including River City, Holby City, Taggart, Outlander, and High Times and more recently Mayflies, Shetland and Vigil - the last set on board a Clyde-based nuclear submarine.

He has also appeared on the big screen, in movies such as The Wee Man, A Lonely Place to Die, and The Barber.

A spokesperson for the branch said: “Stephen was an instant hit with our members, and they all

joined in with the performances and gave a lot of good feedback on the understanding of the effects drug and alcohol can have on people, their families, the community and the

wider public.

“Stephen was very impressed with how our group was run solely by volunteers and would like to come back and help out as a volunteer when he can.

“We have invited him along to our take on the Nativity play at Christmas.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank

Stephen for his caring and understanding of our group members and that we look forward to seeing him again in the near future.”

Stephen will attend the group’s Christmas show with his big brother Paul McCole, who is also an actor, and is best known for being in Limmy’s Show as well as Taggart, Rab C Nesbitt, and Still Game.

The Helensburgh and District branch recently secured funding from Alcohol and Drugs Prevention which allowed them to hold the acting workshop.

Enable Scotland was established in 1954 and works to support people with learning disabilities and campaign for disability rights.

The Helensburgh and district branch, which is run solely by volunteers, hosts two weekly clubs and provides short breaks for adults who need support.
