ANNE-MARIE

The ultimate dream day in the life… as imagined by the singer and songwriter

-

Before releasing Speak Your Mind, the biggest debut album of 2018, Anne-Marie (Rose Nicholson) had already had her fair share of the spotlight. In 2014 she joined Rudimental’s band for two years, she toured with Ed Sheeran and, in 2016, provided vocals for Clean Bandit’s Rockabye, which became the Christmas number one. However, with the success came the anxiety, something she says she’s tackled for years. Then, during lockdown, she began seeing a therapist, naming her second album Therapy after the experience. “I feel like we were given this opportunity to figure ourselves out, because for our whole lives we’ve never been given a chance to stop,” she says, adding, “I’ve come out of it a different person and I’ve dedicated my album to that feeling”. Here she tells us about her ultimate day…

My dream morning is being woken up by natural light, because I didn’t put the blinds down. If someone brought me tea that would be nice, maybe my future imaginary husband, let’s call him… I love the name Joshua. Recently, I was thinking about chocolate spread with strawberries on a crumpet, so I made some. It was the best thing ever, so I’d have that for breakfast. I’d do a quick workout, because I don’t like the long ones, then I’d go for a walk somewhere with a bit of greenery. I’ve been doing ten minutes of face yoga every morning. I started following Lili Yavorski on YouTube, who does a facial routine with cups. Everyone has been saying, “Your cheekbones”, and I swear it’s this thing.

After that I’d head to Ireland, because I’ve loved it since visiting when I was touring.

I’d go to a pub and drink Guinness. I don’t really like it, but feel I should – I used to hate olives and now love them, so I hope it’s going to be the same with Guinness if I persevere.

Then I’d go to Ibiza, because I miss it so much. There’s a random little restaurant that does a quinoa salad that’s so fresh.

I’m a bit obsessive in that, if I like something, I keep having it. I’d go with Rudimental, Ed Sheeran or Joshua [laughs].

I’d wear a very short dress to show off my tan. I’ve been loving Dolce and Gabbana lately, they made my outfits for The Voice, so I’d wear some Dolce. And Natasha Zinko sliders. I found out her 11-year-old son designs them, which made me love them more. And I’ve had an obsession lately with bags made from old basketballs, by a brand called Tomme, because I love basketball. Then I’d go to St Lucia with Little Mix, just because they look so good right now. We’d snorkel and I’d wear swimwear by Hunza G. It’s one size and stretchy, so you don’t have to worry if the top and bottom are going to fit. I’ve found an SPF50 spray by Kate Somerville. It’s so good because you can use it over makeup if you forget to put it on first.

As boring as it might sound, I’d come home to London for dinner at a Vietnamese place in Hackney called Hai-Ha. It’s a family-run restaurant and a tiny space. All the dishes are traditionally Vietnamese and it’s the best food ever. I always order the vegan rolls. I’d go with Niall Horan, just to take him to Hackney, because I’m not sure he’s been.

I’d wear a big jumper and baggy trousers by House of CB, who do a good tracksuit.

I’m obsessed with brown.

I’d go to sleep in a hammock in the forest, listening to the rain and smelling the outdoors.
