With a property on the shores of Lake Como, George and Amal Clooney have long been members of the “jetty” set. And having made a welcome return to their Italian hideaway – their first in two years – they were keen to push the boat out for a family dinner. The stylish couple ( left) were photographed disembarking from a water taxi to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo with family members, including Amal’s sister Tala and journalist mother Baria Alamuddin.

Married for seven years and parents to twins Alexander and Ella, four, they looked closer than ever, holding hands as they headed ashore ( below). Speaking about his relationship with Amal, a barrister specialising in human rights cases, the Oceans 11 star told the hosts of the Smartless podcast: “I met this amazing woman... She was brilliant and funny and beautiful and kind. I was sort of swept off my feet.”

It is not just Amal he loves, however. Italy has also captured his heart, and since purchasing his 18thcentury Lake Como mansion in 2002, George has been a frequent visitor. Earlier this year, he even gave fans the chance to win a trip to join him there, in a fundraiser for the Clooney Foundation for Justice.
