James Bond star Daniel Craig has been named as the world’s highest-paid actor. The 53-year-old actor earnt $100m (£73m) for reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out murder mystery sequels, according to Variety.

The two sequels will premiere on the popular streaming service Netflix.

The list of the highest recent film star salaries was published ahead of the release of the latest Bond movie No Time to Die,

which was originally due out in March 2020 but was resheduled because of Covid-19, and will now hit cinemas next month. It will be Daniel’s last appearance as 007.

Other A- listers appearing in the list include Dwayne Johnson, Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Dwayne was paid $ 30m up front for agreeing to star in Amazon Studios’ Christmas adventure Red One, Will’s salary for the upcoming biopic King Richard was $40m and Denzel also earnt $40m for The Little Things.

Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts were tied when it came to the highest-paid female actors at $25m each for the disaster comedy Don’t Look Up and thriller Leave the World Behind respectively. Leonardo DiCaprio stars alongside Jennifer and received a reported $30m for his role.

Income for Hollywood’s biggest stars has jumped because streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime have influenced the way actors are paid, as they can now negotiate for higher upfront fees instead of traditional back-end payments, based on a share of box-office profits, had the movies been exclusively released in cinemas.
