MILLIE MACKINTOSH
ON WHY SHE HOPES HER CHILDREN WILL HAND OVER THEIR HAND-ME-DOWNS
The soon-to-be mum of two tells of her hopes for her family
With a mum as stylish as Millie Mackintosh, it’s not surprising that her 16-month-old daughter Sienna is one well-turned-out tot.
Which means that the baby girl the former Made in Chelsea star and her husband, fellow TV personality Hugo Taylor, will welcome soon is in for some pretty fantastic hand-me-downs.
“One hundred per cent I am keeping a lot of Sienna’s clothes for her sister,” Millie tells hello!.
“But as they get older I want them to get involved in donating what they no longer wear to be loved by someone else. I think it’s really important that they understand that things are to be shared and enjoyed by everyone.”
Proving the perfect role model to her girls, Millie is supporting the Give Up Clothes for Good campaign, which encourages people to give away their unwanted quality clothes through their local TK Maxx store. The donations are then resold in
Cancer Research UK shops across the nation, with the money made going directly towards life-saving research into cancers affecting children and young people. There are environmental benefits too: since its launch in 2004, the campaign has collected some 1.7 million bags of unwanted items, diverting 9,000 tonnes from landfill.
POWER OF FASHION
Millie’s flair for fashion started when she was young. “I have always loved dressing up, ever since I can remember,” she tells hello!. “But I would say I’m more a lover of fashion rather than shopping. I love the transformative power that an outfit has.”
And it won’t be long until she has two mini-mes following in her footsteps. After enjoying a glorious holiday in Crete last month with her husband and firstborn, Millie recently told her 1.4 million Instagram followers how she was “starting to panic a little” about becoming a mum again.
“It’s suddenly dawning on me that very soon I’ll have two children under two,” she posted, alongside a sweet image of Sienna touching her blossoming bump. “How will I cope with two so close together?”
But for all the challenges that might lie ahead, it’s clear motherhood is something Millie treasures. “It has taught me a lot of lessons and I feel like I have come into myself more,” she has said. “I always wanted to be a mum. Things have clicked for me. There are tough days and tough times but I really love it.”
