BRITNEY SPEARS
Singer’s father agrees to step down
The father of Britney Spears, who set up the conservatorship under which she has lived for the past 13 years, has filed a petition for it to be terminated. It follows the Toxic singer’s recent request for Jamie to be removed from his conservator role, in a court filing that stated: “Ms Spears has told this court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship.”
Jamie had previously said he would step down “when the time is right”, but his lawyers have now stated: “As Mr Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr Spears believes that she should get that chance.”
The next hearing will be on 29 September.
