Harry Potter stars return for a magic school reunion

-

Daniel Radcliffe is reuniting with his former castmates Rupert Grint and Emma Watson to mark 20 years since the release of the film version of Harry Potter

and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The trio will take part in the HBO Max TV special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts together with other stars from the franchise, including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman and Imelda Staunton.

However, Harry Potter creator JK Rowling will not be featured in the show, which will be streamed on New Year’s Day, although it is reported she will appear in archive material throughout.

Return to Hogwarts will, say the makers, “tell an enchanting making-of story through all- new, in- depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first- person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time”.

Tom Aschiem of Warner Bros, the film’s production company, said: “It has been an incredible journey…

“This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon.”

The film’s young stars have also been sharing their joy at being reunited. Posting the trailer for the show on Instagram, Tom Felton, who played Harry’s school archenemy Draco Malfoy throughout the franchise, wrote: “Is this what school homecoming is like? mark your calendars for New Years Day.”

Meanwhile, Emma, who starred as Hermione Granger, told fans: “Had to break out the Time-Turner one last time for this…”
