Giuseppe ‘speechless’ after Bake Off win

-

Italian engineer Giuseppe Dell’Anno was last week named winner of this year’s The Great British Bake Off. The 45-year-old beat his fellow bakers, 26-year-old Goldman Sachs analyst Crystelle Pereira and 40-yearold sales manager Chigs Parmar, in the final of the hit Channel 4 series, which was seen by eight million viewers at its peak.

Giuseppe (above centre) was a favourite from the beginning of the amateur baking show – presented by Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding – winning the weekly Star Baker accolade several times and receiving regular praise from show judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. The father of three, who lives in Milan with his wife and sons, triumphed with an Alice in Wonderland-themed showstopper with a pea and asparagus choux bun “caterpillar”, and mango and passionfruit panna cottas.

Receiving his first- prize cakestand trophy, Giuseppe said: “There are no words, I’m speechless. For once,” but soon took to Instagram, writing: “You think you know what you’re getting yourself into when you sign up… it’s a physically, psychologically and emotionally draining experience. But also, exciting and exhilarating.

“And I could have never done it without the support of my wife, my fellow bakers and the constant support from the production team! Thank you all out there, for reaching out and showering me with love! I will be forever grateful!”

On social media, Crystelle wrote: “He is the most humble, naturally talented, hilarious and genuine gentleman out there. I could not be happier or more PROUD to call Giuseppe our winner.”
