HELLO! (UK)

SAIRA KHAN’S PICK OF THE WEEK

-

I love that the Tower of London is planning to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year by creating a stunning “superbloom” display of flowers – from 20 million carefully selected seeds – in the famous moat.

The flowers, which will bloom from June to September, are such a fitting tribute to our Queen because, in my opinion, she is a flower herself.

I have seen her wear all the colours of the rainbow, from mint green to bright purple, and always look stunning. After everything she’s been through, she’s come through with flying colours. She adds colour to our nation and has brought joy to many people through some of our darkest days. Colour is what it’s all about so how fitting we will celebrate her milestone with a burst of it around the Tower.

Lots of people who live in London don’t have access to gardens or green space so it will be powerful to see this area in bloom. When I see flowers in my garden, I can’t help but smile.

When events like the Jubilee happen, we Brits do it really well – and that’s because our Queen has set the standard.

I was seven years old when the Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1977. It was one of those events that I’ll never forget. We were given silver coins at school.

I’m glad my children will remember celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, which marks 70 years of the Queen’s reign. I admire her patience, strength and commitment

‘ to her duty as a wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and monarch. She’s an example for all women. I hope we can have street parties and celebrate as a nation. I will 100% be bringing my family to see the installation. We look forward to celebrating your Platinum Jubilee with you, Your Majesty!
