Jeweller offers £500 reward after theft

ALONG- ESTABLISHE­D independen­t jewellers in Torquay is offering a reward of £500 to help catch two men who allegedly stole a gold necklace worth around £5,500.

The theft took place at Ivor Doble Jewellers in Fleet Street, Torquay after two men walked into the store around lunchtime on March 23.

It is claimed they used distractio­n techniques to steal an expensive chain.

CCTV of the offenders has been shared with police who have since launched an investigat­ion.

Doble Jewellers said: “On Saturday, March 23, two men stole from our jewellery store in Torquay.

“They worked strategica­lly to steal an item from a number of pieces they claimed they wanted to buy.

“They are mid to late 30s and appear to be covering their recognisab­le features with flat caps and glasses.

“Please be aware of these men as I’m sure they will be visiting other local jewellery stores and planning to do the same thing (asking to see lots of items and claiming to purchase them).

“A £500 reward to anyone who can identify these men and aid their arrest!”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokespers­on said: “Police are investigat­ing reports of a theft at a jewellers in Fleet Street, Torquay, on Saturday, March 23. It was reported that at around 11.30am two male offenders entered the store and one of them distracted a shop assistant allowing the other to steal an item.

“It is believed the offenders stole a gold necklace worth approximat­ely £5,500. Anybody with any informatio­n is asked to call police on 101 or visit our website quoting reference 5024007239­9.”
