Still chance to recognise the heroes helping your community
NOMINATIONS for the DevonLive Community Awards have started to stream in with only weeks left to nominate.
Event partner Devon County Council has encouraged residents across the region to make sure their unsung heroes are not forgotten. The awards will be held at RHS Rosemoor, Torrington, on Thursday, December 6, from 3pm to 6pm. Roger Croad, cabinet member for communities at Devon County Council said: “These awards are a chance to help celebrate and recognise the unsung community heroes who help make our county the place it is.”
GOOD NEIGHBOUR
This honour is for a person, couple or family whose acts of neighbourliness and sociability have touched those around them.
VOLUNTARY AND COMMUNITY SECTOR CHAMPION
This honour will go to an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to a local voluntary group, charity or community organisation.
ENVIRONMENT CHAMPION
This honour is to recognise an individual or group who work to maintain or improve their local environment, encourage cleaner, greener living or makes the community a more pleasant place.
CARING COMMUNITIES CHAMPION
This honour is an opportunity for individuals and groups to gain recognition for their work to help organise a more caring and supportive community that seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of local people.
COMMUNITY HERO (18+)
Do you know of anyone who has improved the lives of those around them in their community or battled against the odds to fight for something they believe in? Has a family member put themselves in danger to help or save the life of another?
YOUNG HEROES (U-18)
This honour will recognise any child or teenager who has worked to improve the lives of those around them or fought to make a real difference within their community.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Do you know someone who regularly volunteers their spare time and energy to support a local project, help people with transport, run a sports club or organise community events?
DEVON CARER
This honour is open to any paid or unpaid carer who has gone the extra mile to look after others. This could be a family member who “just gets on with it” or a professional who goes above and beyond.
ARMED FORCES AND EMERGENCY SERVICES HONOUR
To recognise any member of the armed forces, police, fire, ambulance, coastguard, mountain or sea rescue services, or NHS A&E staff, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
DEVON MENTOR
This honour recognises our most inspiring educators. The judges are looking for the leaders who motivate and encourage others, either at school or college, in sports or craft clubs, cadets, guides and scout groups, theatre or dance troupes.
DEVONLIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION HONOUR
Do you know someone who needs to be recognised and thanked for all their hard work but doesn’t fit into any of the other categories?
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT HONOUR
Sponsored by Devon County Council, this will be decided from the honours list. Nominate at http://devonhonours.co.uk where nominations are open until October 11.
