Gullible voters fell for Leave ‘promises’

VOTERS lied to during EU referendum, says Tory MP Sarah Wollaston (Herald Express, August 22).

Well of course they were lied to, because the English largely are the least overall politicall­y educated in the Western world, so the Leave campaigner­s took advantage.

But let’s not forget David Cameron had this referendum vote to appease the EU sceptics in his party. This vote was not for the good of the country and it backfired.

Sarah Wollaston admitted her government has said any extra money for the NHS would have to come through higher income tax, which leads me to believe that Dr Wollaston knows full well her government is not funding the NHS adequately, but via low income tax.

Dr Wollaston might like to be informed that the Right-wing of her party, in or out of government, have never believed in the concept of the NHS, which is why full NHS privatisat­ion has been on the cards since Margaret Thatcher’s era, and I wonder how many, if any, Tory candidates in the bay at the next general election will be aware of this?

I also have to ask her where the £350 million a week dividend will go if and when Brexit happens?

Because if Brexit does happen billions per year are supposed to be saved because we wont have to send that money to Europe as our membership, so where is that £350 million per week dividend going?

So Dr Wollaston, you are right, those who voted for Brexit were mislead by deliberate untruths, but even if they weren’t lied to, we must be given a say on the final deal.The people must have the final say.

If Brexit happens, and we leave the Customs Union, some of our goods will soar in price, because around 30% of our fruit and vegetables are imported from the EU.

While Britain remains a member of the European Union, we enjoy the benefits of the easy transit of goods across national borders. If the UK leaves the Customs Union, as the
