NEWTON ABBOT PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB

-

THE results of the 7th South Devon Salon of International Photography, organised by Newton Abbot Photographic Club, have just been announced and there are two delighted club members who achieved outstanding results.

Photographers worldwide can enter images into the four Salon sections, Colour, Mono, Creative and Nature and this year there were 4,073 images from 405 photographers, representing 44 countries.

In the first part of the competition the three judges view all the images and grade them, and those with the highest marks are ‘accepted’ into the final stages for the awards to be made, although not all acceptances receive an award. This

Emperor Creche by Christopher Marsham year there were 1,090 acceptances with 57 receiving awards and 47 receiving honourable mentions.

Kirsty Peake achieved a silver medal in the Nature section for her image “Incoming” and Christopher Marsham gained an honourable mention, also in the Nature section, for his image “Emperor Creche”.

Kirsty explained that the image was captured in an area of Yellowstone National Park USA which is a known territory for this particular fox. She kept an eye open and spotted it starting to hunt, then had to be very quick to capture the leap, which she did most successfully from about 25 metres away! With her silver award Kirsty said: “I’m completely amazed and had to look several times at the score sheet before it sank in! I have entered the Salon each year since I joined the club and have learnt from the experience each time. I still have lots to learn, but being a member of NAPC has helped my photography - without the support, encouragement and club activities my photography would not be at the level it is now.”

Christopher Marsham’s image was captured on Snowhill Island, Weddell Sea, Antarctica. Christopher explained “The penguins photographed were part of a colony of some 250,000 Emperor Penguins, a truly amazing sight. I was close to the penguins and with their sheer numbers, I needed to be sure that the placings of the birds in the image worked well. I have entered the Salon before and achieved a medal and was pleased to receive the award this year for one of my five entries that were accepted.”

The full results showing all the Salon acceptances and award winning images can be viewed on the NAPC website where more information about the club can be found: www.newtonabbot-photoclub.org.uk and click on the white Salon link.
