POWDERHAM Castle, the beautiful home of the Earl of Devon, is a fantastic place to spend quality time with friends and family, with its exquisite architecture, historical greatness and beautiful gardens – not to mention plenty of activities for children.

And the best bit is, now you can enjoy a day at the famous castle for less by booking as a group. Powderham offers discounted rates for groups of 15 people or more, so you can gather your nearest and dearest for a fun-filled day out to remember and not break the bank. With this offer, adult tickets cost £10.50, seniors £9.50, students £9 and children £8.50.

Thousands visit Powderham each year, and many find themselves going back time and time again, simply because there is plenty to enjoy at the castle for all ages.

The prices include an exciting and fact-filled guided tour for the whole family to enjoy, which often takes around an hour to complete.

If you want to relax and take time to enjoy everything at your leisure, the team at Powderham would recommend setting aside at least three hours, plus extra time for refreshments in the Courtenay Cafe.

The rose garden is a must-see, as it is home to beautiful blooms from June onwards, with wisteria hanging in all its glory from the castle’s east-facing terrace. This is a delightful spot for photography-lovers to take pictures of the castle, as they will also have exquisite views across the Deer Park, which holds more than 650 fallow deer, and across to the Exe Estuary.

There is also a fascinating nature trail for children to follow around the grounds, which will allow them to ex- plore the natural beauty of this Devonshire landmark.

There are many areas designated for children throughout the house and grounds, and none more so than the newly-refurbished Courtenay Fort, which offers everything from seesaws, swings, Wendy houses, a zip-wire, ride-on tractors and fantastic outdoor games.

Here, children are transported to another time where they can act out stories and let their imaginations run wild. And the fun does not stop there as the walled garden proves to be a family favourite year on year, as adults can soak up the rays as well as a few moments of peace in the beautiful surroundings while the youngsters visit pets’ corner, where they can meet all creatures – from a pot-bellied pig to a tortoise. People of all ages can explore nature up close and personal by visiting the beautiful duck ponds and the majestic Victorian glasshouse.

For those who want to enjoy life in the slow lane, wholesome Devon cream teas are served in abundance at the Courtenay Café, situated in the courtyard of Powderham Castle.

With lashings of full-fat clotted cream and locally-produced jam and tea – here you can sit back and watch the world go by.

You can then take a walk through the beautiful castle grounds to burn off any extra calories. Guests are also welcome to take a picnic in the grounds of the castle, which includes the beautiful American woodland garden and Belvedere tower, offering far-reaching views of the estuary.

You’ll find Powderham Castle at Kenton, Exeter, Devon, EX6 8JQ. For more information contact the groups department on groups@powderham.co.uk or call 01626 890243 if you wish to discuss your visit in detail.
