Georgina claims national title with stellar showing

One of Torbay AC’s most promising juniors, Georgina Scoot competed in the England Athletics National Championsh­ips at Bedford.

Competing in the under 15 girls triple Jump, in the fifth round an 11.80m jump was good enough to win her the national title also setting a new championsh­ip best performanc­e in the process.

With a legal tailwind of under the 2.0m allowance, this performanc­e puts Georgie number one in the UK rankings as the best 14 year old triple jumper in the UK, and number one in the UK all time rankings.

Torbay AC men’s team claimed the first team prize in the Armada Trail Run at Newnham Park Plymouth on Sunday.

Seven Club members ran in this beautiful but testing 7

seven-mile race around the Newham park including several deep river crossings which were the main attraction of the day for the spectators.

In the triumphant mens team were 81 Kevin Fine (52:43)227, Steve Weeks (52:48)- 181, Anthony Raine (54:16)

Other club members racing were 63rd Jo Loten (1:04:11)65 Matthew Botting (1:04:16)89 Steve Sharp (1:08:32)-209 Gemma Radcliffe (1:26:39)

Debbie Drake had a go at the Jungfrau mountain marathon in Switzerlan­d.

Starting off in Interlarke­n with the first 25k undulating hills, reaching Lauterbrun­nen, started a steep climb up first track and then on to rocky unstable ground with steep steps.

The last 1.25k was an ascent of 905ft across a rocky ridge on the side of the mountain.

Drake finished in 6:15:52 at 8000ft up. There was brilliant support, with feed stations every 1k and a man playing bag pipes at the top.

Andy Philippou completed the Shwarzenbe­k half marathon, starting in the small town which is located east of Hamburg, Germany, following fairly flat forest trails, starting

Georgina Scoot at the England Athletics National Championsh­ips and ending on the town’s athletic track.

Philippou finished in 51st position in a time of 2:12:27.

Mark Bruce competed in the Fantastic Crafty Fox half marathon.

The 14.4-mile route was over some of the most beautiful countrysid­e in Dorset.

Mark managed to finish in 23rd position in a time of 2:14:10 out of 405 finishers receiving a cracking finishers medal, bottle of Dorset ale and pint glass.

At the Torbay Velopark parkrun, Colin Peters put in a sterling effort to come second in 18:42(PB).

Other finishers were Gary Burman 19:13, 17 Guy Akeroyd 21:13, 25 Jonathan Hiscoke 21:47, 67 James Waddell 25:09, 70 Hugh Slater 25:29, 133 David Cubberly 29:50, 175 Steve Hookins 32:54, 210 Amelia Bumby 38:03, 211 Karen Bumby 38:03.

Parkrun tourists Lauren and Hannah Carr travelled to Liverpool for the Princes parkrun, with Hannah finishing 155th in 27:26 and Lauren 157th in 27:26.

Hannah Carr was first girl and third overall in the mile fun run at the Wigan 10K with sister Lauren second girl.

Armada Autumn Trail in Plympton forms part of the SDAC Club champs.

Jeremy Goddard completed the seven-mile course in 53:32 and was first V50.

Rick Martin was not far behind in 56:48. Other competitor­s included John Drennan, Roger Webb, Neil Hayes, Steve Waddington and Andrea Wall.

Eric and Jan Foster of Dawlish Coasters ran the armada autumn trail of 7.25m down at Plympton on Sunday.

This is a tough all off road, undulating through forest and a couple of river crossings. The weather was dry and sunny and the race was well marshalled.

Eric finished in time was 1.03.01 and Jan was 1.10.51.
