Paignton go to Truro after fightback against Tiverton

RUGBY UNION ROUND-UP

- BY CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

Paignton, away to Truro this Saturday, snatched a 20-20 draw at home to Tiverton.

Tiverton probably left Queens Park feeling hard done by as the outscored the Cherries three tries to one.

It looked like a done deal for Tiverton when they were 20-15 up, but a late try from winger Henry Hoare earned Paignton the draw points.

The rest of Paignton’s points came from Dave Siddall, who booted two first-half penalties and three more after the break.

Kingsbridge were glad of a late try from Buster James for earning a 15-15 draw against visiting Truro.

Truro were never behind in the game after Owen Davey kicked them ahead on 23 minutes.

Town levelled through Thom Leman, but a Jack Tidball try converted by Davey put Truro back in front.

Right on the break Dave Stephens winged in for Kingsbridge and Leman levelled with the goal.

Ethan Taylor ran down a cross-kick for a try that put Truro back in front.

James scored from a catch-and-drive move to level it a third and final time.

The Tics demolished Hayle 99-0 at home first time out in

to the Cornwall & Devon Division earning the soubriquet of promotion favourites with 27 games to go.

Honiton at home on their famously sloping pitch with the Hannay brothers running down it armed and dangerous, are a totally different proposition.

The Lacemen picked holes in the Torquay defence to go 34-0 up early in the second half.

Torquay pulled back second-half tries through Lewis Harben and Ryan Dunn, one of which was converted by Mawgan Penrice, but never looked likely to mount a fightback.

James Wood, the Torquay player-coach, said if the team had been feeling complacent after the win over Hayle, they would not be now.

“Honiton outplayed us in pretty much every aspect,” said Wood.

“They carried with intensity and just wanted it a lot more than we did.

“Maybe a bit of complacency crept in after our big win the

The Riversides, boosted by the recent signings of Linford Brock – from Barnstaple – and ex-Gloucester and Brixham prop Koree Britton, came out on top 15-13.

James Ruddock scored a try for Totnes before half time, with Scott Hingston kicking a penalty and a conversion.

Totnes went ahead with a penalty from Hingston.
