Lap of honour is last salute to navy’s Sea King helicopters
SOUTH Devon will have a chance to salute the Royal Navy’s last flying Sea King helicopters today.
The aircraft from the Royal Naval Air Station at Culdrose are taking part in a final ‘lap of honour’ around Devon and Cornwall before they retire and their duties are taken on by the newer Merlin helicopters.
Sea Kings have been in service for half a century.
The flypast was due to happen yesterday but was delayed by 24 hours due to bad weather in South Devon.
Best vantage points will be Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth at 12.03pm and Trinity College at Teignmouth at 12.16pm.
The aircraft will be over the Paignton area at 12.08pm this afternoon.
