Gym group rise to challenge of three peaks

WINNERS 2000 gyms across Newton Abbot, Torquay and Paignton took on the three Peaks Challenge to raise thousands of pounds vital funding for patient care for their local hospice.

The three day challenge covered testing terrains and intense hill climbs up the highest peaks in the UK.

The challenge led the fundraiser­s to the top of Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis, the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland.

The team of fundraiser­s brought together staff, members of the Winners gyms and three students and a teacher from Coombe Pafford School.

The amazing fundraisin­g efforts raised over a staggering £16,000 which will go towards funding end of life care across South Devon, supporting patients and families facing the hardest days imaginable.

Organiser Jon Ellery explained his motivation for sup- £1,700 and will be used to fund a range of activities including drama sessions, community outreach work and providing new sea safety equipment. The awards were: £1,000 for 10th Torbay (Babbacombe) Sea Scout Group, £300 for Unleashed Theatre Company, £200 for The Willows Com- porting Rowcroft, saying: “My mother in law received amazing care at Rowcroft before she passed away, so it seemed right to make sure all this effort from training walks on the moors and coastal paths, to the challenge itself could benefit a wonderful charity like Rowcroft Hospice.” munity Church and £200 for Smart Recovery.

Mr Foster said: “I am delighted to present the latest awards from my Foster’s Fund to four groups who work hard to make a difference in our bay by providing new opportunit­ies or reaching out to the local community.”

Rosey Oakes, community and corporate fundraisin­g manager at Rowcroft Hospice said, “What a team!

“We were thrilled to see photos of them proudly wearing their Rowcroft t-shirts and waving their Rowcroft flags on top of Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis!”
