BOXING

Torbay Amateur Boxing Club head coach Darrell Asplen took four boxers to Falmouth and a weekend of success. Opening the show was Torbay’s Thomas Mosley, who used his range and height advantage to great effect, and boxed superbly. Torbay debutant Jake Rodriguez landed a big right hand in the second round, knocking out Exmouth’s George Freemantle. Ben Andrews secured a unanimous win over Exmouth’s Alex Yollands.

In only his second bout, Jordan Picot was an unlucky loser against Exmouth’s Louis Norton but will aim for a return to winning ways on November 24th at the Torbay ABC home show at Torquay’s Acorn Centre. The doors open at 6.30pm.

ATHLETICS

The second round of the Westward Cross Country League took place in Newquay and Torbay Tri Club were well represented by six male runners. Racing over 5.3 miles, the team faced tough competition from top Cornwall and Devon Runners. Kevin Woodard was first back for the team, with Shaun McKernan edging out Jason Hurford.

At Torbay Parkrun, Ben Gerrish took his first win, while club chairman Simon Mills ran a PB in 19.54. Ben Gerrish 18.19, Simon Mills 19.54, Julyan Bayes 21.22, Rob Harris 23.05, Gary Brenton 23.23, Bobby Singh 23.26, Shaun McKernan 25.29, Samantha Froggatt 30.43, Terry Windeatt 32.48. On holiday in Minehead, Jerry Hocking found time to run the Parkrun and finished in 19.43.

In the Dorset Dark Valley Race , Simon Bunday was the first Dawlish coaster home in 1hr.1min, and in 41st place, third in his age category. Pam Bunday and Pat Clatworthy came in together on two hours.

Haldon Trail Runner Nick Warren took part in the Sodbury Slog on Sunday, a 10-mile multi-terrain race in Chipping
