‘Agreement’ leaves UK in turmoil

-

I CAN’T remember another day in British politics when Parliament has been in such chaos; ministers resigning, the Prime Minister on her feet for three hours trying to defend her Government’s position, attempts to trigger a Tory leadership contest.

Our country is in total turmoil. The long-awaited EU draft withdrawal agreement, all 585 pages of it, has been published. It’s only a draft and needs to be accepted by both our Parliament and all of the other 27 EU countries before coming into force. It only covers the withdrawal arrangements and so in 2020 we will have to start all over again to get an agreement to cover our future relationship. That ‘s when the real problems will start!

There seems little chance of this draft measure getting past a ‘meaningful vote’ in either the Commons or the Lords.

The Conservatives are tearing themselves apart while the labour party seems incapable of coming up with a policy that anyone can understand!

The DUP has pulled the plug on the agreement to make up the Tory’s majority, so Theresa is now heading a minority government. Can we have our billion quid back please?

Remember David Cameron? He who promised on the day of the referendum not to resign whatever the outcome, then the next day was gone.

Polling shows a majority of our people now want a second referendum, a people’s vote, now that we know, or will know, the terms of our leaving.

The 2016 referendum was a mistake, both legally and morally. Its motivation was dubious and its execution was dogged by lies and half truths. Despite what Cameron said, it was not legally binding.

Parliament is sovereign and
