Remembrance event well attended

-

THE annual Festival of Remembrance at Central Church Torquay was attended by a packed audience, which included Kevin Foster MP, Mayor Gordon Oliver and other local dignitaries.

Riviera Concert Brass and the Torbay Police and Community Choir provided the musical content. It was good to be supported by the various Standards of the British Legion and other organisations. A large number of young people attended and took part.

The evening raised £1,000 for the charity Veterans with Dogs.

My thanks to all who attended and made this such a successful event.

Each week we will publish a snapshot of South Devon — can you guess where it is? Our pictorial clue is a photo taken somewhere in the area. Can you recognise where?

Last week: Door detailo, Torre Abbey born there). Seriously, we are so very fortunate in this area to be offered so many holiday features, Seaside, moors, historical towns and all near at hand.

I have sadly, just one or two criticisms which annoy me and no doubt Teignmouth Council, holiday-makers and residents of Teignmouth.

The approach road from Kingsteignton to Teignmouth offers some of the most spectacular views of the Teign Estuary and Teignmouth which we have all photographed and will treasure for many years.

Shaldon Bridge, The Docks and the quay side cottages, we love them all.

We enter the town and ugh! opposite the Tesco Express Garage is one of the most disgusting dilapidations ever seen, the ‘old Tesco building’.

I do not know all the technologies that may be involved and do not wish to point the finger at anyone, but surely a serious tidy-up is long overdue or even a compulsory demolition.

We move a little further along up the hill and we are greeted with yet another ugh! the Golden Lion Pub, an absolutely disgraceful building.

Sorry Teignmouth! but these two buildings create a very bad impression. My wife and I will not forsake Teignmouth because we are aware of its many other attributes.

First impressions however can be quite damaging.
