South Devon runners enjoy ‘Beat the Street’

SOUTH Devon Athletic Club won first place in the Community Teams category of Torbay’s Beat the Street competition.
The award ceremony took place on Sunday after the Junior Parkrun at the Torbay Velopark – with members from the club there to celebrate their achievement.
The Drogo 10 is a challenging 10-mile multi-terrain race that starts and finishes at Castle Drogo. Nine South Devon members took on the race which is part of the club’s Grand Prix.
Finishers: Vince Langdon 1:21.48, Jeremy Goddard 1:21.49, Damon Carney 1:29.25, Keith Belt 1:38.48, Kerry Bell 1:41.08, Sue Hayes 1:49.12, Roger Webb 1:50.05, John Drennan 2:11.23, David Cubberley 2:26.55.
ATHLETICS
Torbay Athletic Club runners had five members enter the exciting and challenging multi-terrain Drago 10 race, which started and finished at Castle Drogo.
This gave the runners a chance to experience 10 miles of hilly, muddy, and cross-country terrain in the Teign Valley, and tackle the infamous Hunter's Hill footpath – an elevation of 1526ft.
First home for the club was James Hartridge in 1hr 28min 28sec, and he was followed by Mark Bruce (1:29.58), Chris Norman (1:40.41), Ray Brown (1:44.13), Tessa Hearfield (1:50.24).
SNOOKER
The top two met in the Premier Division of the Match Room Sponsored Torbay Winter Snooker League in a high quality match that saw Ritchie Blackmore win the opening frame with a 56 clearance.
Andy Hill had breaks of 38 and 31 to clinch the second and Matt Phillips winning the third gave leaders Dawlish RBL B a 3-0 lead. Andy Astin started the St Anne’s A fight back with an 81 break to make it 3-1, opening the door for the in-form Jason Whittaker to take the fifth frame before completing the St Anne’s revival with a 118 break in the final frame for a 3-3 draw. Dawlish retained their three-frame lead but lost their 100% record.

Lee Turner impressed with second place and there was number of age group prizes as six runners from Torbay Tri Club completed the challenging Drogo 10.
