BRIXHAM will be going for three wins on the trot when University of Exeter visit Astley Park this Saturday.

The Fishermen followed-up their 46-17 win over Cleave by beating Drybrook 33-24 on the road.

Brixham appeared to have the game in the bag when they led 33-10, but Drybrook were not about to throw in the towel.

Drybrok scored two tries in quick succession and were chasing another for a bonus point when time ran out.

Martin Worthington, the Brixham coach, said the team had a game plan and largely stuck to it.

“We set goals in the week about how we would approach this game, we came out the blocks quickly and put Drybrook on the back foot from the start,” said Worthington.

“A couple of early tries got us going and we played some nice rugby.

“All our play was built off a good set piece – and out in the backs we looked very sharp.

“Defensively, we looked very comfortable under lots of pressure.

He added: “From one to 18 it was an all-round performance, which helps us build nicely for the four derby games coming up.”

Brixham’s run-up to Christmas comprises University of Exeter (H), Exmouth (A), Ivybridge (H) and Newton Abbot (A).

Ivybridge, Exmouth and Newton Abbot are old adversaries as far as Brixham are concerned. The Students are a real unknown quantity.

The last meaningful meeting between the sides was a Devon Cup quarter-final at Astley Park in 1990. The Fishermen ran out 34-10 winners.
