T&D break Dartmouth run to extend own good streak

WBW SOLICITORS SOUTH DEVON LEAGUE

- BY NEIL HOCKING

TOTNES & Dartington brought Dartmouth AFC’s unbeaten start to to a surprise end, opening the door for Buckland Athletic Reserves to regain the advantage in the Premier Division of the South Devon League.

With three wins in their previous four games, including a home victory over Ashburton, newly promoted Tots were always going to be tough opposition for leaders Dartmouth and Daniel Block gave the visitors the lead after 14 minutes, lobbing the goalkeeper from 25 yards following some intense pressure.

Dartmouth got themselves level on the hour mark, Dan Rankin converting a cross from the right, but it was to be Totnes & Dartington’s afternoon.

With 17 minutes remaining, Finn Roberts played a one-two with substitute Charlie Ginley before bursting into the area and chipping the goalkeeper.

Dartmouth remain top but are now just three points ahead of Buckland Reserves who have a game in hand.

Buckland also now have the superior goal difference after putting defending champions Ashburton to the sword 11-1 – the shock result from Homers Heath.

Lorin Newcombe and Jordan Ewing both managed four goals apiece with Sean Kenny scoring twice and Matt Beer with a single. Jack White’s goal for Ashes would have been scant consolation.

Comeback of the day will surely have to go to East Allington United.

The Pirates found themselves three down at home to Kingskerswell & Chelston courtesy of an Aidan Mackin double and Shane Shobbrook strike.

But a brace from Andy Davis, a single from Simon Hannaford, and an own goal saw the home side clinch the points, the winner coming in the final minute with some assistance from the wind!

East Allington move back up to third, replacing Chudleigh Athletic, who were on cup duty. Kit Hardee and Gavin Hammon scored for the Premier side as they narrowly overcame Di- vision Two outfit Stoke Gabriel Reserves at Broadley Lane.

There were three other games in the Herald Cup last weekend. Beesands Rovers moved into the third round with a 3-0 victory over Waldon Athletic Reserves at Coach Road on Friday night – Tom Harvey with a double and Finley Bullen with the other Bees’ goal.

Paignton Saints were too strong for last season’s giant-killers Ilsington Villa, Jamie Micklewright with two goals and Jamie Ford, Robert Gorvin, Luke Johnson, Cameron Jones, Billy Reay and Scott Troth also netting in an 8-0 victory for the Division One side.

The other game saw Division Four’s Watts Blake Bearne AFC dispatch Broadhempston United from Division Five 6-2.

Cameron Gill grabbed the lion’s share of the goals with four while Luke Pellowe and Kenneth Taylor both added goals after coming on as subs. Sehena Coulibaly scored both goals for Broads.

Back to the Premier League and Paignton Villa moved above visiting Brixham AFC Reserves with a 5-1 triumph at Churston Grammar School.

The other game, between Kingsteignton Athletic and Watcombe Wanderers was abandoned in stoppage time with the Rams 3-2 up due to a serious incident involving players.

Ashley Yeoman and Guy Watson both scored twice for Salcombe Town as they closed in on Division One leaders Torbay Police by beating Babbacombe Corinthians 6-1.
