Millennium green lights up for carols under the stars

AS THE year draws to a close, the Orchard Millennium Green Trust in Buckfastleigh is gearing up for another of its seasonal gatherings under the stars.

The green will be the setting for Carols on the Green, a short concert featuring Christmas music and readings which will be taking place this year on Wednesday, December 5, from 5.30pm. Residents and visitors are invited to come and welcome in the festive season and sing along with some classic Christmas tunes. Patrons will also be able to enjoy some seasonal treats including a cup of warming, mulled apple juice.

Now in its sixth year, Carols on the Green is a free-to-enter family-friendly event for all ages and features a light selection of music mixed with short readings.

Speaking on behalf of the trust, trustee Maureen Tuffnell said: “We are delighted to be bringing this festive offering to the town once more and bringing a little sparkle of early Christmas cheer to visitors.

“Join us for this gentle, light-hearted start to the Christmas season and don’t forget to bring your lovely lantern!”

As in previous years, Carols on the Green will once again be taking place as part of the larger Buckfastleigh Christmas fair, a traditional street event featuring family activities, food and festive stalls, and the carol concert will be organised by the Reverend Tom Benson, who will also read short passages from scripture.

The evening will also be accompanied by a specially invited ensemble of local musicians who will entertain guests with renditions of some Christmas favourites to sing along to.

Events co-ordinator Trefor Jones said: “We are very pleased to be offering a public event, by the community, for the community as part of the wider Christmas fair.

“Carols on the Green is intended as a gentle, family-orientated gathering to be enjoyed by patrons young and old.”
