Buckfastleigh into the semi-finals of Devon Junior Cup

RUGBY ROUND-UP

- BY CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

BUCKFASTLEIGH are through to the last four of the Devon Junior Cup after beating Dartmouth 25-0 at the Cricket Ground.

Dartmouth were seriously depleted for the game due to a long-planned a stag weekend booked by one of their players.

The game should have been played three weeks earlier, but had to be rearranged due to bad weather at the time.

And with a busy league programme to fit in, there was little flexibility in the schedule to rearrange the game again.

Bucks led 7-0 at the break thanks to a Scott Mason try that Harry Laity converted. Laity added two penalties after the break for a 13-0 home lead then converted his own breakaway try to make it 20-0. A corner try by Sam Green concluded the scoring for the Ramblers.

The Ramblers will be away to Exeter Athletic in the semi-final, on a date to be confirmed. The other semi-final is between Torrington and North Tawton.

Dartmouth are looking forward to their first home game for three weeks this Saturday when Old Techs pay a visit. The Ramblers are at home to Tamar Saracens.

Totnes , who had no league or cup game last Saturday, entertain Torrington on the Borough Park. New Cross have no match until December 8 when they visit North Tawton.

In the South West One West division Teignmouth ’s home game against Newent was postponed due to the waterlogged state of the pitch at Bitton Park. No replay date has been set yet, although league chiefs may insist on moving it to just before Christmas with Saturday, December 22 currently a free date.

The Teigns host Thornbury this Saturday.
