Holiday park leisure centre replaces one destroyed in blaze

-

»»A HOLIDAY park near Paignton has a new leisure centre.

The £3.4 million facility has been built to replace one at its Devon Hills Holiday Park that was forced to close after a huge fire more than a year ago.

The Hive Leisure Club & Cafe will have a gym, licensed cafe, a convenience shop, an 18-metre indoor pool, a sauna and steam room. It will also house the park’s reception and sales office.

Devon Hills has been without leisure facilities since September 2022, when a fire started in the sauna and spread to around 40% per cent of the building.

The Hive will be open to both those staying at Devon Hills, as well as members of the public who can become members.

Those who sign up before April 16 will only pay the joining fee to begin with and can use the gym for free until the first monthly membership payment on May 1.

The pool will also have swimming lessons for children aged four and over and children will have unlimited access to the pool outside of lessons when accompanied by a paying adult.

Chief executive officer of Haulfryn Group Limited Bobby McGhee said: “At Haulfryn, we are all absolutely dedicated to ensuring that all facilities and grounds offer an exceptional experience for our much-valued guests, owners and local community.

“The Hive Leisure Club & Cafe will not only elevate the overall enjoyment on-site but will also foster a sense of wellbeing and community.

“We are delighted to throw open our doors, and access to these facilities to the local community, and to restart our popular memberships within the new, modern spaces. Locals are also most welcome at The Hive Cafe which is fully licensed so perfect for catch-ups.”

The Hive Leisure Club & Cafe opens on Saturday.
