Poignant tribute to town’s war fallen
SIMPLE wood crosses carrying the names of all those from Newton Abbot who lost their lives in the First World War have been laid out in a town centre park.
Newton Abbot Town Council, Teignbridge District Council and the Royal British legion worked together to create the poignant tribute in Courtenay Park. A short ceremony was held as the crosses were placed.
The town’s Remembrance Sunday event will take place on November 11 from 10am, with a procession through town and a service being held at the War Memorial.
To remember the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War the town council will be lighting the three town beacons in the evening, followed by bell ringing at various local churches.
