Castleton returns to old club as Teignmouth’s woes go on

Things can only get better for Teignmouth this Saturday after a miserable week ended in a 27-6 defeat at Newent.

Teignmouth’s problems started in midweek when newly recruited scrum-half Will Castleton returned to Newton Abbot after playing a game and half for his new club. Teignmouth were delighted to have Castleton on board as they were crying out for a number nine.

Kyran Rendle, who has occupied the nine shirt for a while, became long-term unavailable recently after starting the selection process to join the armed forces.

The last thing he wanted was an injury disrupting his career plans.

Just as Teignmouth were getting used to the new dimension Castleton brought them in attack, he announced he was on his way back to Rackerhayes.

“Newton Abbot are having a tough time in their division and Will was finding it difficult not being part of it to help them as he is a Newton boy,” said Colin Aldworth.

“It is understandable from his view point, but disappointing for us as he had fitted in well.”

Faolan Lidstone stepped in at scrum-half for the game at Newent as caretaker while a new scrum-half is sought.

For an hour there was next to nothing between the sides and Newent’s 8-6 narrow lead was a fair reflection of the game. Then Newent shot clear.

“We were more than competitive for 60 minutes, and had all the play in the first half, but were just not clinical enough,” said Aldworth.

“I don't think we had enough self-belief to be honest.

A 10-minute spell lacking in concentration and discipline ruined us.”

Forwards Pete Parsons and Alex Ford both sustained injuries at Newent and are now doubtful for this Saturday’s home game with North Petherton.
